MANIFESTO OF BABA SHETTIMA KUKAWA (BSK)
CANDIDATE FOR GLOBAL PRESIDENT, UNIVERSITY OF MAIDUGURI ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
THEME: UNITY IN STRUCTURE. IMPACT IN ACTION.
MOTTO: TESTED. TRUSTED. READY.
01. STRUCTURED & CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNANCE
— Building Order, Legitimacy, and Accountability
A strong Global Alumni Association must be built on structure, not improvisation. This pillar focuses on constitutional governance, transparent elections, clear timelines, and standardized operations across chapters. Leadership will be guided by rules, processes, and accountability — restoring confidence and legitimacy at every level.
02. ACTIVE & REVITALIZED CHAPTERS
— Strengthening the Foundation from the Ground Up
The Global Body is only as strong as its State Chapters. This pillar ensures that chapters are active, democratic, and accountable through mandatory elections, regular meetings, and performance-based recognition. Dormant chapters will be reactivated, and vibrant chapters will be supported to thrive.
03. DATA-DRIVEN GLOBAL UNITY
— Knowing Our People, Connecting Our Strength
We cannot build a serious global network without a serious database. This pillar focuses on creating a robust, secure Global Alumni Database in partnership with the University — capturing graduates from the earliest sets to the most recent. Data will power communication, engagement, mobilization, and value delivery worldwide.
04. ENGAGEMENT, PRIDE & HERITAGE
— Turning Membership into a Living Community
Unity must be cultivated, not declared. Through predictable national traditions such as Annual AGMs, Conferences, Award Nights, Reunion Walks, and the institutionalization of World UNIMAID Day, this pillar rebuilds pride, strengthens identity, and ensures consistent engagement across generations and continents.
05. CAREER, BUSINESS & MENTORSHIP GROWTH
— Creating Clear Value for Every Member
This pillar answers the key question: What’s in it for me? Through the Global Mentorship Grid, Town-and-Gown programs, career guidance, NYSC support, and the UNIMAID Business Hub, alumni and students will gain access to mentorship, opportunities, partnerships, and professional growth.
Why BSK?
01. Proven Leadership. Tested Systems. Real Impact.
Baba Shettima Kukawa is not campaigning on promises — he is presenting a track record of delivery. His manifesto is built on systems he has already designed, tested, and executed.
With over 20 years of leadership experience in complex, multi-stakeholder environments, BSK understands what it takes to build structure, manage people, and deliver results at scale. As Executive Director, Retail Operations and Mobility at NNPC Retail Limited, he oversees operations and marketing across 1,000+ retail stations nationwide, driving growth, optimization, and performance in one of Nigeria’s most demanding sectors.
This same discipline, structure, and results-driven mindset defined his stewardship of the University of Maiduguri Alumni Association, particularly as Chairman of the FCT Chapter (2019–2023).
02. A Leader Who Has Done the Work
BSK’s leadership within the Alumni Association spans over 16 years, across multiple roles at chapter and national levels. He was not a ceremonial leader — he was a builder.
He helped digitize the Association by developing its website and strengthening ICT systems.
He served on the Constitution Drafting Committee, enabling formal registration of the Association with the CAC.
As FCT Chapter Chairman, he led the publication of a clear Blueprint, delivered a Maiden AGM, restored member confidence, strengthened engagement, and executed projects that turned the FCT Chapter into a model for alumni governance nationwide.
What he is proposing at the global level is not theory — it is a scaled version of a system that already works.
03. Leadership Beyond Alumni
Beyond UNIMAID, BSK is widely respected as a team builder, negotiator, and transformational leader. He has led large, diverse teams, negotiated complex stakeholder relationships, and delivered performance in both corporate and union leadership roles, including serving as Pioneer Branch Chairman of NNPC Retail PENGASSAN and a National Working Committee member.
He is an alumnus of the University of Maiduguri, Lagos Business School, and Harvard Business School, a Fellow of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management. He currently serves on the boards of NNPC Retail Limited and NNPC Shipping Limited.
04. The Right Leader for This Moment
The University of Maiduguri Alumni Association does not need another promise.
It needs structure, credibility, unity, and action.
Baba Shettima Kukawa offers:
A tested blueprint, not assumptions
Proven leadership, not ambition alone
Impact-focused governance, not politics
He has done it before. He knows what works. And he is ready to lead — globally.
Tested. Trusted. Ready.
05. Structure, Unity, and Impact — Delivered
Under his leadership, the FCT Chapter moved from fragmentation to function:
Structured governance replaced improvisation
Consistent engagement replaced apathy
Measurable impact replaced empty promises
From reunifying members through purposeful engagement, to mobilizing alumni influence, to delivering tangible interventions at the alma mater, BSK demonstrated that when alumni are properly organized, they can achieve real results.
